The Bluegill Journal

For Bluegill Bass and Other Panfish

I fished my 5'3" 5 wt Fenwick this afternoon with the sharkskin 4 wt fly line. I had no problem casting, overhead, roll casting or even single hand spey casting. next time I'll try a 3DT line
I landed a number of golden shiners & BGs.

Nice looking rod! Glenn loves to underline. How do you like the new Sharkskin line? It is WF, correct? I am a DT fan myself. :-)

It is WF line. I have used the sharkskin all season. It seems to perform better when underlined with a fiberglass rod. I have not been impressed with its performance when paired with my 2&3 WT, graphite rods. today i used it with a Fenwick 756(6wt). I had no trouble backcasting, roll casting or spey casting with the 756 and the 4 WF line. so is the 756 a 6 wt or a 4 WT rod??

Glenn and I have always found that to be a very subjective and personal question. He'll go outside for hours with one rod and four different lines. They will all be on the same reel-type so the reel itself doesn't become a variable.

He has been able to put a 7WF line on a 4 or 5 wt and other crazy combos. Honestly, I think it is all subjective.
